Welcome Back to 2020

HRHS School Grounds

Welcome back to 2020. Happy New Year to all of our school community and as a staff, we are excited for what this year will provide for our students, your children.

As we are all aware, as a country we have had bushfires on an unprecedented scale causing widespread destruction and this has deeply affected us all. Our thoughts are with those who have been impacted.

I would like to specifically acknowledge the work and efforts made by volunteer organisations, emergency services and others who have done so much to keep communities as safe as possible.

We are all committed to ensuring that our students are valued and cared for and in these challenging times it is even more important that we remove any impediments to their effective engagement in schooling.

Emotional support for students

The bushfires have touched everyone in different ways. For students who have been directly impacted, distressed or traumatised then behavioural changes are possible. We are coordinating additional counselling services to schools in bushfire-affected communities. These schools will be contacted directly by the Department. We know that teachers are often the first person a child will turn to for assistance and support. Please see the attached advice on assisting affected students. Questions regarding counselling support for students should be referred to your school’s Leader of Psychology Practice / Senior Psychologist Education.

Please read the following document, “Information for parents and carers” prepared by the DoE and contact the school if your child or family requires support.

Kind regards,

Deb Dibley
Principal
