Transition Statement

Hunter River High School wishes to strengthen the fundamental social, emotional and educational links with our partner primary schools through an ongoing Stage 3 into Stage 4 transition project. Teachers from all educational settings should work collaboratively to ensure that all prospective students of Hunter River High School are engaged and excited about high school life. The following Australian Professional Standards for teachers are addressed:

  • Maintain high ethical standards and support colleagues in interpreting codes of ethics and exercise sound judgment in all schools and community contexts
  • Contribute to professional networks and associations and build productive links with the wider community to improve teaching and learning

Throughout the year, it is planned that the staff from Raymond Terrace, Tanilba Bay, Karuah, Seaham and Salt Ash Primary Schools work with staff from Hunter River High School to develop stronger links in some of the following activities:

  • FoR-Focus on Reading
  • FoR-Focus on Writing
  • Literacy Bedtime Stories 3-4 transition unit, literacy challenge
  • GATS-Selected students to visit HRHS and experience lessons STEM lessons
  • PBL Building stronger relationships in the community through Positive Behaviour for Learning
  • Numeracy, Numeracy challenge and tutoring at HRHS
  • CAPA participation in Showcase night, performances at primary schools, dance workshop
  • Sport participate in a sport day at HRHS, students from HRHS to coach and referee sports at our Partner Primary schools
  • Indonesian participate in a four-week program

Aboriginal education is linked to all areas of learning and is strongly supported at HRHS through the Cultural Learning Area. Personalised Learning Plans for all students form the basis of differentiated learning and these are developed in collaboration with the student's teachers, the student, their family and key support staff. These plans are made available to all staff ensuring each student's goals are a priority.
