LIBRARY (The Hub)

The library boasts a modern, resourceful 21st Century learning environment. Our library is a hub of information services; we have the Teacher Librarian, who is available to support students with the development of research skills, the school’s Technology Support office, the Career and Transition (CAT) team, The Learning Centre (TLC), and the Community Liaison Officer (CLO).

The library’s resource collection includes items in a variety of formats including books, e-resources, magazines, films and documentaries. Resources are constantly updated to ensure students and teachers have access to relevant and current material.

TEACHING & LEARNING CENTRE (TLC)

The Learning Centre (TLC) can be found in the mezzanine area of the Library and provides support for the teaching and learning programs available at HRHS. It provides a learning space that caters for the individual learning needs of all students. TLC provides opportunities for students to receive personalised attention to complete assessments, catch-up tests, assignments, small group learning, individualised learning programs and tests that require Disability Provisions. TLC is available for all students, including seniors and is open during Periods 2 to 5 every day. A Learning and Support teacher is in TLC at all times.

 

CULTURAL ROOM

Hunter River High School has a very proactive Aboriginal Education Team. This team focuses on supporting our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students to reach their full potential in educational, cultural, leadership and future career pursuits. The Cultural Room is a place where students can receive tutoring and mentor support. Every student at Hunter River High School has access to a wealth of Aboriginal resources to support their learning.

OUTDOOR LEARNING AREA

The 'Narralbaa' Outdoor Learning Area, is a beautifully designed, native landscaped garden, where students can learn in a peaceful outdoor learning environment.

CAREER AND TRANSITION TEAM (CAT)

The Career and Transition Team ( the CAT Team) is located in the Library.  In one convenient, centrally located space, students have access to:

COMPUTER ROOMS and INTERNET ACCESS
HRHS has three computer labs and Chromebooks/iPads available for each Faculty. Wireless access is available across the entire school for student's devices.
 
 
THE STUDIO  (DANCE and DRAMA ROOM)
The Studio is an amazing teaching space for CAPA subjects such as Dance and Drama that is filled with state of the art equipment. Within this space it has an industry standard harlequin sprung floor with tarkett, full length mirrors across two of the walls, fixed ballet barres and is fully air-conditioned. The studio also features a brand new Bose sound system, new SmartBoard technology and a changing area. Students have access to resources such as yoga mats, foam rollers and strengthening bands to increase the student's strength and flexibility.

 

TRADE TRAINING CENTRE

The Trade Training Centre is a state-of-the-art facility (Engineering) that is equipped with up-to-date industry standard equipment, ensuring students are exposed to industry like learning experiences.  This prepares students well for their work place placement, contributing effectively to their chosen field of employment.

COMMERCIAL KITCHEN

An industry standard commercial kitchen that can accommodate students in an above par teaching/learning environment.  The students can enjoy and learn in an environment modeled on a commercial kitchen in the hospitality industry.  Our kitchen is complimented by a Cafe style deck, that operates a full functioning Cafe weekly.

MUSIC at HRHS

The HRHS music rooms equipped with a vast range of musical instruments including; keyboards, acoustic guitars, semi-acoustic guitars, electric guitars, bass guitars, drum kit, ukuleles, double bass, piano, a variety of brass, woodwind and percussion instruments. Each classroom also has portable PA systems, enabling the vocalists to develop their microphone technique. A rehearsal room is also available for students to use.
