Information for Parents/Carer:

Hunter River High School provides an opportunity for students entering Year 7 in 2018 to be part of an Academic Enrichment Program.  Students will need to develop their own strengths, undertake challenging activities, have opportunities for creative activity and student initiated activities and they are encouraged to achieve academic excellence.

Selection for this class is listed below:

  • Standardised Exam: Completing a G.A.T. (General Achievement Test).
  • NAPLAN: Year 5 NAPLAN results (photocopy only).
  • Portfolio Work: One sample of original writing completed in class (photocopies only): 

      - One sample of a completed task in Mathematics

      - Once sample of any other work chosen by the student

  • Profile:  Completion of a profile sheet by their classroom teacher.
  • Report:  Year 6 1/2 Yearly report.

 

Selection criteria used to determine class placement:

  • Standardised Exam: Completing a G.A.T. (General Achievement Test)
  • NAPLAN (Photocopy only) - NAPLAN results from Year 5
  • Portfolio Work (Photocopies only)

- One sample of original writing completed in class

- One sample of a completed task in Mathematics

- One sample of any other work chosen by the student

  • Profile - Completion of a profile sheet by their classroom teacher

 

Selection criteria used to determine class placement:

  • Good literacy and numeracy skills;
  • Sound research skills, including library and internet skills;
  • High level of self-motivation;
  • Positive attitudes to school and learning, including homework;
  • Ability to work in a team in learning situations;
  • Positive behaviours which enhance learning;
  • High levels of creativity evident in learning tasks and
  • Strong academic performance across a range of subjects.

 

IMPORTANT:  Students not in a Public School will need to return the application form to HRHS.

Summary of Important Dates:

  • Monday, 26 February, (Week 5-Term 1) - Partner Primary Schools notified of what is involved in application for Academic Enrichment Program Year 7, 2019. Information also to be placed on school Facebook page and school web page.

 

  • Friday, 13 April (Week 11 Term 1) - Complete the application form and return to your Primary School Principal.

 

  • Monday-Friday 4, 5 and 6 June (Week 6, Term 2) - Mrs Carroll to visit Partner Primary school to administer the General Achievement Test (GAT). 

 

  • Friday, 30 June (Week 10, Term 2) - Final day for portfolio to be submitted for Enrichment Class.  Copies of NAPLAN results and Portfolio of Work handed to Partner Primary Schools (students not in a Public School will need to return the application form to HRHS). 

 

  • Friday, 8 August (Week 3 Term 3) - Applicants will be notified if they are successful or if they are on the reserve list.
